Motorcycle Ride on Panglao Island

On the morning of May 10, I left Tagbilaran and took a jeepney bound for Alona Beach,Panglao Island. After I settled down at one of the resorts, I had my lunch at a nearby restaurant.

All restaurants on the island are facing the sea. So sea views are guaranteed. :-)

I ordered a plate of crabs, which I didn't find fresh or very delicious. I miss the crab congee that I had in Macao. I am a bit hard to wow,as I am from Guangzhou, a paradise for gourmets.

When I was having my lunch, a Canadian traveler came up to me and asked if I would like to see some attractions. I was hoping I could find someone to go island hopping with me to share the boat rental cost. So we started talking. The problem was I just came from Tagbilaran and had been to all of the places he wanted to go: tarsier sanctuary, Loboc River and Chocolate Hills. And it takes longer to go to those attractions from Panglao Island.

According to Lonely Planet, a full-day Chocolate Hills tour from Panglao Island costs P2500

A tour to Loboc River costs 2200p. A tour to the Tarsier Sanctuary at Corella costs 1500p.

I went to the three places taking tricycle, jeepney or bus and spent only 761 in total. Of course, a tour can offer much more comfortable and more efficient transportation.

The Canadian traveler asked me٬"What's the best part of your trip?"

I paused for a while and replied,"Surviving the day."

Looking back, what I remembered most vividly was not a particular attraction, but the fact that I managed to go to three important tourist attractions on my own, using the cheapest transportation means.

I took out the guidebook and said there were also some tourist attractions on Panglao Island. He wanted to rent a motorbike to see those attractions, and I tagged along. He told me he had not driven a motorcycle in a while.

Local motorcyclists helped him jog his memory. I hoped he remembered how to ride a motorbike!

After a while, I asked if he felt confident enough to drive a motorbike, and he nodded his head. I pointed to the road ahead, saying "If you can come back alive, I'll go with you."

Of course, he came back alive. ^___^

We rented the motorbike for 400p. Splitting the bill, we each paid 200p (about 5USD). We could use the bike for 8 hours.

It was really good value, and I got myself a driver for free. ^___^

After I got onto the bike, he told me that he hadn't driven a motorbike for 5 years. Thank God, it was not 10 years!

At the beginning, I was a bit nervous sitting at the back, but he proved to be a good driver. We were greeted by friendly villagers wherever we went.

The views on the road were refreshing. I felt so relaxed. It felt so different than hiring a local motorcyclist. And it was definitely more fun!

We drove to Hinagdanan Cave, which is a karst cave.

We were surprised that they charged us for parking at the cave!

We saw some people come out of the cave all wet. Accidents?

After we got inside the cave, we saw some locals swimming. So there were no accidents. The water felt so very cool. Definitely a nice retreat from the heat outside. After seeing the cave, I said to my Canadian friend, "You should come to China one day. We have bigger caves in China." China has a lot to offer. There are many places worth seeing in China.

San Agustin Church, Panglao

When we went inside the church, we saw some children performing.

The ceiling paintings depict the Seven Sacraments.

Panglao Watchtower was built in 1851. We wanted to go up the tower, but all entrances were blocked.

We also went to Bohol Bee Farm. It was nearly 6:00 p.m. when we got there. So I didn't get to see any bees. But the souvenir shops, honey shops and restaurants were still open.

Bohol Bee Farm is facing the sea with nice views. I am sure this place looks really nice during the day. It also has a special feel in the evening.

Blue is my favorite color. Is the color of my top similar to the color of the sea? ^___^

The honey shop has a variety of honey products. I only bought a small bottle of honey and some honey biscuits. If the shop was in Guangzhou, I would definitely buy more. Honey has many merits. ^___*

Below is a restaurant at Bohol Bee Farm. There's a swimming pool inside. It looks like a good place for hedonism.

It was getting dark, and we had to head back to Alona Beach. So we didn't have dinner there. I am sure they have many honey dishes.

After we got back to Alona Beach, my Canadian friend took me to a restaurant. The restaurant was quite popular, and we had to wait a while for seats. There was a guitar singer in the restaurant. My friend said that there was a better singer who was not present that night. Although the singing was less than professional, it was still very enjoyable and relaxing to have some live singing and music.

After dinner, we went to a different place to listen to a band. The singer in the middle was my favorite. I liked his husky voice and style.

You can make song requests if you put some money in the tip box. Of course, you should at least buy a drink to get a seat there. We sat through the last song!
