我从中学开始就有摘录句子的习惯。学习英语的时候经常把自己喜欢的句子或是写得比较好的句子摘录下来，有时间就拿出来看看。
今天在看Lonely Planet 的 Hong Kong & Macau City Guide
摘录的几个句子和大家分享：
"Hong Kong Chinese adore (spoil) children, respect older people and pamper women."
看到这里，我心想，“香港人真的这么宠爱女人么？”
有些人喜欢做中英互译来提高翻译水平，我个人很少做笔译练习。 翻译能力主要是靠读英文书来培养的。
看完上面这个句子，我总结出，“尊老爱幼”可以翻译成“adore children and respect older people"
那么“宠爱女人”当然可以翻译成"pamper women"了。
瞧，我通过读英文句子，连“中译英”的能力也加强了。
在英文水平不是很高的时候，不要急于练习翻译。应该多读英文原版书，多注意英文的表达方法。
下面这段话是关于旗袍的描写：
"... there's nothing quite like chengsam (Qipao), the close-fitting sheath （紧身的裙子）that is as Chinese as a bowl of wonton noodle soup (云吞面）. It lifts where it should and never pulls where it shouldn't. And those thigh-high slits - well, they're enough to give any man apoplexy（中风）. 旗袍的魅力就在于此，若隐若现的性感，让人赏心悦目却不显得放荡。旗袍侧面的切口足以让任何男人中风。
呵呵，满夸张的。我穿旗袍的时候咋没看见谁中风。 ^___^
