近日在网上下载了一部美剧"Gilmore Girls". 有中文字幕，不过错漏百出。我一般都不看中文字幕，因为我直接听都可以听明白。 不过还是注意到一些很明显的翻译错误。
女主角Lorelai经常去Luke开的咖啡馆和咖啡。Luke对Lorelai说，"Coffee is on the house."
这句话被翻译成，“屋子里有咖啡。”
这样翻译当然不对。 就算不知道“on the house"的意思，查查字典也很快可以找到答案。
be on the house if drinks or meals are on the house, you do not have to pay for them because they are provided free by the owner of the bar, restaurant etc - 店东请客

这样的句子听起来都怪怪的。

那不会怎么办？ 查字典呀！ 只要不偷懒，许多问题查查字典都可以解决。
做翻译切忌望文生义，瞎编一套。
